September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month, an opportunity to celebrate Latino innovators in music, art, sports, science, education, and politics. With the upcoming election, it’s a great time to discuss Hispanic leaders in US politics both past and present.

Students can learn about leaders such as Dennis Chavez, the first Hispanic elected into the US Senate, and Mel Martinez, a current Hispanic Senator in Florida, as well as the history and culture of Latinos in America. NIE Teachers can access and download different curriculum guides and activities at this Resources Page.
